Question by syed akla: They say Nadal will fall to #3 shortly, but don’t you think Nole and Fed that have more points to defend?
After Stuttgart title, Nadal experienced title drought until he won the previous Monte Carlo. He only some big points to defend, among others his Wimby finalist points (700) to and Stutgart (250) but Fed and Nole both have more burdens to defend their points going into the second half of the season. Don’t you think this is an opportunity for him to distance himself from Nole and closing on with Fed? If he can perform well in Rogers Masters and Cincinnati and US Open, wouldn’t he have a good chance to change the guard of men’s tennis?

Rafa if he does drop to 3rd will only be there temporarily but since he beat Nole at the French and will more than likely do so again next weekend has little to worry about. Nole will never beat him on clay or on grass either. Hardcourt is where Nole has a one match edge in their head to head but Rafa is improving by leaps and bounds so Nole better get used to seeing Rafa’s back side. And don’t count Roger out just yet. He is ahead and has too much talent to just let #1 slip away.

No, he won’t! Nadal will stay at no. 2, Federer at no. 1, and Nole at no. 3. Because each of them has the same scenario like last years: Nadal won, Federer was runner up, and Nole lost in SF. So, each of them gained same points this year, and at the same time lost the same points from last year. Illustration:
Nadal: won this year (+1000), points to defend from last year is -1000 = 0 point net.
Federer: Runner up this year (+700), points to defend from last year as runner up is -700 = 0 point net.
Nole: SF this year (+450), points to defend last year as SF is -450 = 0 point net.
So, no points from those players will change this week, neither will their ranking.
If anything has to change on the rankings it will be towards the
end of the season. But the likely hood can happen as early as
at the end of US open. Meantime, the top 3 stay the same on
men. On the other hand, women top 3 will change quite
frequently until Wimbledon and depending on who wins, it can
add more or less changes.
i am sure he would be number 1 soon
yes.. your correct.. he may be no,1 if roger and nole can’t defend those big points!
