Introduction

The Management Development Institute (MDI) was established in 1973 with the generous support of the Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI). It has completed 27 years of academic excellence. From its inception as an institute for the training of practicing managers, it has grown manifold and acquired a strong presence as an integrated business school in India. MDI is ranked among the top 10 business schools in India. The guiding philosophy behind all the academic activities of the institute has been to inculcate professionalism in management and to enhance the effectiveness of organizations.

MDI has tied up with ESCP-ECAP, Paris, for offering a dual postgraduate MBA degree — one from MDI itself and another from Paris based European business school ESCP-ECAP in two years.
In order to cope with the new realities, MDI grooms tomorrow’s leaders with the following competencies and mindsets: –

Programs

The Post Graduate Program in Management (PGPM) at MDI is a natural extension and consolidation of the institute’s experience since 1973, management education research and consultancy. It was taken up with a view to expand the range of activities, as also to cater to the growing demands for professionally qualified young managers.

Post Graduate Program – HRM
The Post-Graduate Programe in Management at MDI attempts to prepare global leaders who create, manage and lead effective change across diverse organizations.

NMP [National management programme] The National Management Programme (NMP) was launched in 1988 with the support of the Department of Personnel & Training, Government of India. The NMP is designed for young managers in government and industry. An Applicant to the National Management Programme should be either:
A Class I officer belonging to any Central or State Services), or
A Class I officer in a Public Sector inclusive of Banks, Financial Institutions or a Private Sector Undertaking carrying adequate management responsibilities, or
A self-sponsored candidate

Admissions Procedure

Eligibility: An applicant should have a minimum of three-year bachelor’s degree or equivalent in any discipline recognized by the Association of Indian Universities / AICTE as eligible for Post-Graduate Studies in Management. Candidates appearing for the final examination for the bachelor’s degree (or equivalent examination) can also apply subject to furnishing evidence to that effect latest by 1st October, 2005, otherwise they may be asked to withdraw from the program.

Entrance Test: Applicants are required to appear for the COMMON ADMISSION TEST (CAT) conducted by IIMs, to be held on 20th November, 2005.
Applicants must purchase the CAT Bulletin from select branches of State Bank of India on or before 20th August, 2004. The CAT announcement has appeared in leading newspapers on 18th July, 2004. Please read and follow the instructions given in the CAT Bulletin.
Send the filled-in CAT Application Form to the concerned IIM’s on or before 10th September, 2004 as mentioned in the CAT Bulletin. The concerned IIM will send you the Test Admit Card mentioning your CAT Registration Number.

Notification

MDI Application Form: MDI application form along with prospectus would be available for sale from 9th August till 15th November, 2004 on payment of Rs.1100/- in cash or through mail by sending a demand draft for Rs.1200/- in favour of Management Development Institute, payable at New Delhi.

Last Date for Submission of Form: The last date for submission of filled in application form at MDI Campus is 21st November, 2005 and should be mailed to:

Group Discussion and Interview: Candidates who qualify in the CAT would be called for Group Discussion and Interview during February / March, 2005 at one of the centres, namely Bangalore, Gurgaon, Kolkata and Mumbai (centres other than Gurgaon are tentative).

Student Exchange Programme

MDI has student exchange arrangements with Universities and Business Schools across the world. Students with an academic and/or professional interest in America, Europe, Australia and wanting to understand the global context of business can apply to these programmes. Students can apply to educational institutions, namely; Aarus School of Business, Denmark, CBPA, USA; Copenhagen Business School, Denmark; EDHEC, France; ESCP-EAP and Sciences Po, France; Leipzig Graduate School of Management, Germany; McGill University, Canada; Norwegian School of Management, Norway; Queensland University of Technology, Bangkok; Solvay Business School, Belgium; Universita Carlo Cattaneo (LIUC), Itlay and Warsaw School of Economics, Poland with whom MDI has students exchange tie-up. Depending upon the nature of tie-up students can spend from a term to one year in these foreign institutions in lieu of their study term(s) at MDI.
Placements
Management Development Institute completed its placement process which met with stupendous success, surpassing its dazzling effort of the previous year and once again ensuring 100% placements for the batch of 2003-05. Over 56 prestigious companies from varied sectors visited the MDI campus, for recruitment, queuing up with top job offers for the fresh breed of bright & talented MBAs. The highest salary offering this year was above Rs. 11 lakhs per annum. The average salary was Rs 8.30 lakhs per annum and the median salary was Rs. 7.93 lakhs per annum. The biggest recruiters this year in terms of the number of students hired were Wipro, IDBI, TCS, HDFC, HSBC and J P Morgan.
