Not every Telefónica employee makes the trip to the organization’s corporate university. Because there are 240000 employees worldwide, they have to (1) acknowledge the business needs that play a key role in building Telefónica’s future, (2) define the organizational needs, (3) and find the right employees who are best-suited for the university. The talent management department, worldwide, worked together to select those individuals to travel to the university. In the end, between 6000 and 8000 employees are selected from the company as a whole. An individual’s role is not taken into consideration; one could be a young person just entering Telefónica. So long as they are deemed a high potential by talent management, an employee will go to the corporate university. Telefónica sits down with the best business schools worldwide, providing them with essential information regarding what Telefónica needs and then the business school or university develops a program that would fit their needs: • What the board wants to execute • The business strategy • The people who should come to the university • Where the gaps are in terms of knowledge and skill Creating partnerships with an educational system will really help form the programs in a way that will be more adequate to Telefónica’s needs.
