Small Business Committee
The small business committee is part of the United Sates senate that oversees the duties of Small Business Administration. It is in charge of researching and investigating problems faced by small business owners. There have been many changes to the jurisdiction of the committee since its inception. It was originally established as a select committee with limited responsibilities. It now has the characteristics of a standing committee. They have made various changes to various aspects of the small businesses. This range from the introduction of Small business development centers to tax and securities law reforms. The committee was changed to small Business and Entrepreneurship since 1981.
Originally this committee was only permitted to oversee the duties Small Business Administration. It was later granted the ability to sit through the Senate sessions. They also carry out research and issues affecting the small business enterprises. When they have conducted their research, they present it to the congress for appropriate legislation. Additionally, they also ensure participation of small business in federal procurement and government contracts.
It also holds the responsibility of reviewing nominations for the various positions in the Small Business Administration. This includes its Administrator, Chief Council and inspector General. The members of the small business committee are on both sides of the government. There are the democrats and the republicans.
Under the small business committee are subcommittees that deal with different branches. There is the subcommittee on workforce, empowerment and government programs, another on regulatory reform and oversight, one that takes care of issues on tax, finance and exports and one that deals with rural enterprises, agriculture and technology.
