Question by Brandon C: Should I pursue a Masters in Computer Science or a MBA?
I’m currently in a 4 year university working towards my Bachelors in Computer Science with a concentration in Information Systems. I’ve spoken to one of my professors about going to Graduate School. He suggested that I get my Masters in Business Administration after my BSCS, for management opportunities. The problem that I can’t figure out is – if I get a MBA, will my profession be geared more towards business or will I just get a BETTER computer science job with higher pay because I have a Master’s degree? And if I will just get better pay, why not get my MSCS?

Stick with the computer science. Refine and take what you already know to a higher level.
Too many Bureaucrats around in the world =p
If you get an MBA on top of a BSCS, you’ll be qualified to do management, ideally at a software company. You won’t be doing coding.
If you get an MSCS, you’ll have more theoretical knowledge for the best software engineering opportunities out there.
Both will lead to higher paying jobs.
These are really two different degrees leading to two different paths. I don’t know how anyone could suggest to you to get an MBA without knowing what you like and dislike. If you enjoy coding and want to make a career out of it, then you should get an MSCS.
Since you probably have very little professional software development experience, you should do that for a few years before thinking about an MBA. Business schools like it if you have a few years of work experience under your belt. Besides, I don’t think anyone would want a manager at a tech company to not have any professional experience working as a developer.
