Q&A: If you change schools and degree programs what do you state on your resume about your undergraduate credits?
Question by shellee411: If you change schools and degree programs what do you state on your resume about your undergraduate credits?
I changed school mid way through my associates program and when I changed they put me in a bachelors program. Before I graduated I had to complete my credits for my associate’s degree but never received a degree. My associates would have been for business administration and my bachelor is visual communications. Can I state on my resume that I have a bachelor in visual communications and minored in business administration? Or is there another way I should state it?

You should not say you have a minor in business admin., unless your college record states that. Employers check on this. It is best not to address that you “swtiched.” Instead, you can simply state your major, and list some of the business courses you’ve included on your own because of your interest and belief they would help you perform better at the job for which you are applying. Be sure you are able to speak to how these courses will / have helped you when you are interviewing.
As far as an “emphasis,” goes – I have a letter from my college department stating my emphasis. But the emphasis was planned, not a by-product of the switches, I too, made.
You need to go by your college catalog’s course of study to determine whether or not you “minored” or “emphasized” in business ed. Usually a minor is comprised of 20 or more credit hours, with hours progressing from the lower division courses, to upper division. If you meet your university’s criteria for a minor, then you may state both your major in Visual Communications and minor.
Another way to state this, if you did not meet the minor criteria, is to list the two colleges you attended, and your area of study at each one.
P.S. You may request your diploma from the college you first attended, even now. There may be a fee for processing it.
Best wishes.
You can always state in your cover letter that you majored in business admin prior to actually getting your degree in visual studies..good to do if the job you are applying for has any admin roles connected to it.
