Q&A: I have a Dual B.A. in Biology and Math. Are there MBA programs that will accomodate me?

Question by nobody2000: I have a Dual B.A. in Biology and Math. Are there MBA programs that will accomodate me?
I need to know, and here’s the information you need to know:

- I ONLY have Business 101 under my belt
- I am going to talk to MANY admissions departments of business schools as well as check out their websites for info about my situation.
- I am prepared to take an extra 2-3 semesters building up pre-reqs.
- Don’t ask my why I want my MBA. I have my reasons…I just don’t know what I will concentrate on.
- “I don’t know” is not an appropriate answer.
- If you, or someone you know has a similar story to me, let me know the details, and how they faired out.
- I was VP of my SIFE team (Students in Free Enterprise) and under my co-leadership, we were ranked top 16 in the nation (won’t help me academically, but shows my extracurricular commitment).

Thanks. I know my details make me look like an ass, but a lot of answers are just bored people wasting a post…go outside people!

But seriously…thanks.
GPA and GMAT are irrelevant…just assume I qualify for now.
I’m not asking “will I get in” I’m asking “does such a program exist.”

Yes, there are programs that will accommodate you. If I were you, I would look into programs offered by liberal arts schools, as opposed to specifically business schools, as liberal arts schools tend to be more accepting of non-business majors.

At the institution I’m currently attending, the prerequisites for admission are only nine semester hours, including financial accounting, microeconomics, and statistics.

One of my friends in the program has a dual BA in Chemistry and Nutrition. My BS was in Accounting.

Personally, I think you’re smart for diversifying your degrees, it stands to reason it would be easier for you to get a business job with a biology/mathematical company, or a biology/mathematical position in a business related company.

Best of luck in your studies, I hope this answer has helped you.

Almost any MBA program from a good school would suit you. That’s because MBA programs typically accept students from any discipline, and they prefer students whose undergraduate degree is not in business. The MBA is a general broad degree covering a wide variety of business issues and training students for careers in managing any area of business up to CEO. MBA students study accounting, finance, marketing, statistics, management, economics, strategy, policy, leadership and similar courses. The MBA was developed because people with technical backgrounds getting promoted into management are not always able to manage, and people in management often don’t understand the technical fields they manage. That’s why MBA programs prefer students with degrees in other than business and with 2-4 years of work experience. Their graduates learn to manage and can speak the language of the people they manage, whether that is engineering, chemistry, medicine, music, or any other field.

Before you consider which MBA program is for you, consult the Official MBA Guide, a comprehensive free public service with more than 2,000 MBA programs listed worldwide. It allows you to search for programs by location (US, Europe, Far East, etc.), by concentration (finance, marketing, aviation management, health management, accounting, etc.), by type of program (full-time, distance learning, part-time, etc), and by listing your own criteria and preferences to get a list of universities that satisfy your needs. You can use the Guide to contact schools of your choice, examine their data, visit their web site, and send them pre applications. You can see lists of top 40 schools ranked by starting salaries of graduates, GMAT scores, and other criteria. It’s the best service available at http://officialmbaguide.org.
