Well, they’re NOT just a diploma mill, they are accredited – at least for some programs.

The bad is that they’re not respected, and you do end up sitting in front of a computer for hours on end to learn. If you can go to a physical school, you really ought to.

You’ll have to do student teaching in a real classroom anyway, so at least you’ll get some learning that’s not just online. And you’ll have to get state licensing. Once you have that, the demand for special ed teachers should be great enough that where you got the degree won’t matter. Of course, once you have some experience teaching, it won’t matter at all. Your on-the-job performance will be what matters.

If I were you, I would find a non-profit, brick-and-mortar alternative. UoP is a for-profit school, which means they are in it for the money, not the education. Schools like that have questionable standards, and that is what makes them poison to employers. Real schools require GMAT test scores. A lot of for-profits skip this since they only want your money.

Here are some brick-and-mortar alternatives that provide Masters in Special Education:

    East Carolina University
    University of Houston–Victoria
    The University of Toledo
    University of Wyoming
    Cardinal Stritch University
    Florida State University
    Fort Hays State University
    Northeastern University
    Old Dominion University
    St. John’s University
    University of Central Florida
    University of Nebraska at Kearney
    University of the Southwest
    Wayland Baptist University

All are half of what it would cost at UoP. As you can see, you have many choices. Good luck!
