LocalEdu.com Helps Parents and Students Going Back to School Save Time and Gas

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) August 30, 2006

Adult students returning to school for a college degree can save both time and gas by using a new tool on LocalEdu.com to easily determine the nearest educational campus. The tool provides users with a Google Map of schools by state, city, or by entering their zip code with a specified radius to help adult students find the perfect degree program (http://www.localedu.com/search-zip.php). This tool is especially helpful for parents who can find a school closer to their work, their children’s schools, or their home to reduce travel time and increase the amount of time spent with their families.

With the Energy Information Administration (EIA) reporting that gas prices have gone up $ 0.45 per gallon from one year ago and $ 1.80 from 10 years ago, everyone’s budget is impacted by rising gas prices. According to the most-recent EAI Short-Term Energy Outlook report, “Significant relief from the high crude oil and gasoline prices is not likely to occur soon as the current tight market must also cope with strong gasoline demand, which typically reaches its seasonal peak in August, and the traditionally more active months of the hurricane season.”

LocalEdu.com’s search tool helps students spend less time driving, allowing more time for other activities. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that in families with children under 18, women spend just 27 minutes and men 21 minutes on average per day playing or working on hobbies with their children. For parents considering returning to college for a degree, a shorter commute time can equal more quality time with their families.

According to LocalEdu.com spokesperson Adam Lee, “Parents returning to college for a bachelor’s or master’s degrees need to save time and money for the sake of their families. With gas being so high, everyone is looking for ways to drive a little less, and that’s what we hope this tool helps all returning students do.”

For a growing number of adults over 25, going back to school to earn a bachelor’s or master’s degree equates to considerable financial benefits for their family. A 2005 Census Bureau reports that earning a bachelor’s degree almost doubles the average salary of a high school diploma holder to $ 51,206 per year, and an advanced degree increases the average annual salary to $ 74,602 per year.

LocalEdu.com is an educational resource that provides students with information on cities, schools, and educational programs. Students can search the LocalEdu.com Directory to find universities, colleges, and vocational schools anywhere they want to go to school–from California to Florida, Texas to Illinois.
