Is there a difference between Graduate School and Business School?

Question by Stephanie: Is there a difference between Graduate School and Business School?

Best answer:

Answer by mobrien118
In the US there are a few types of colleges:

1. 2 year Trade or Community college
2. Undergraduate college or university
3. Graduate college or university (incl. Post graduate)

The third is commonly referred to as “Graduate School” and usually comes after “Undergraduate”.

Business school can refer to any three of those.

So: Not all graduate schools are business schools, not all business schools are graduate schools, but a business school CAN BE a graduate school.

Furthermore: “Business”, as in “Business School” just refers to the curriculum (what you are studying). There are any number of types of schools in the respect, including “Engineering School”, “Art School”, etc.

Yes, there is a significant difference. Graduate Schools are colleges for Masters & Doctoral Degrees, while Business Schools are a specific type of Graduate School, offering only Business degrees.

Mobrien 1 gave you the perfect answer. He took the words right out of my mouth. But I still wanted my 2 points!!! So, let me give you a concrete example. I did my “under graduate” work in two majors: Psychology and Economics. Therefore, I have a Bachelors in both these fields. Then I went to “Graduate” school to obtain a master degree. I started by doing one year in the business graduate program to obtain an MBA (Master of Business Administration). I hated it, so I switch to the graduate program of Social Work where I obtained my MSW (Master of Social Work) in two years. Both of these “graduate” programs were offered in the same university. That university also offered a large array of undergraduate programs.
Okay, I feel I earned my 2 points anyway!
    Good luck!
