Is it worth it? I am trying to get a masters degree in social services but my undergrad is in business.?

Question by karnotda: Is it worth it? I am trying to get a masters degree in social services but my undergrad is in business.?
I am currently enrolled online at Capella University studying social and community services. My undergrad degree is in business administration. I really don’t know what I can do with a degree in Business Administration and Social Service jobs don’t pay well. What should I do? I can’t find a job with my current degree and it is really taking a toll on me and my marriage. Should I continue to waste my money studying social and community services or should I pursue something else? I am stuck!! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!

If you have a BA, why not go for an MBA? That would translate a lot better and is very marketable.

You are right that Social Service jobs do not pay well, but there must be a reason that picked that field of study. You need to pursue a career in a field that you enjoy.

While you may not be rich in the career that you choose, you need to be happy. If your marriage does not survive because your spouse wants more money, than perhaps it was not meant to be.

Remember, you are going to spend most of your life at whatever job you choose.

    Take care,

You sound like you have schooled for a while and want ot work. If you opened your own social service business as a private consultant…Only you can make that choice…If there is just the two of you then put in time social service work and a connection to a better paying job might be short comming…

Business Admin means just that, management and higher in companies. If you’re looking to supplement your degree then take economics and law courses, that way your future is wide open to lots of good income jobs.

Seems to me only the government and need-based organizations have social services personnel and yes they don’t pay well. People used to get into those jobs because usually it was difficult to let someone go and because the benefits were good. Also because they didn’t allow their people to go bankrupt it sounded like an upright job.
