Question by Johnny5: Is it worth getting your MBA if its not from a top tier business school?
I really would like to pursue an MBA, however, its not from a top tier business school such as Harvard, Wharton or Berkeley. I want to take advantage of this lag in the economy and go after it. I would be getting a great deal because of instate tuition. Also, all classes meet at night so it wouldn’t be interfering with full time job. In addition, is it wise to pursue an MBA from the same school that you obtained your BA, or is this frowned upon, for whatever reason. Every-time I see credentials from teachers, their seems to be a contrast of where they obtained their BA and MBA. Thanks

Short answer, No… long answer, Hell No. My friend has an MBA from one of the top christian schools in Business and it has gotten her nothing. But my other friend that barely graduated and went to an ivy league for their MBA in business is making 6 figures. Go to the top noch or don’t waste your time.
It’s like buying a mansion in the ghetto, yeah the price is right, but what’s it really going to be worth?

As stated elsewhere, an MBA from less than a top-tier school will not boost your career to new heights and a six-figure salary.
However, if you sights are lower, and your current organization both pays for the MBA and opens up promotion opportunities, then a part-time MBA may be cost-effective. Make sure the MBA is AACSB-accredted. (There are two other accrediting agencies, but only AACSB has real credibility).
Also, take your MBA from a different school. You look provincial if you don’t.
