is it okay to go to business school without work experience?

Question by mikaela: is it okay to go to business school without work experience?
i got a BS degree in Industrial Engineering. But I have a GPA of 3. Pretty low. Do you think business schools would give me a hard time to enter? I have also never been a president of any school clubs. Would it be better if I get work experience first before entering Bschools? Would that give me higher chances of getting in? And would I learn more in an MBA program if I already have work experience?

btw…do consulting firms only accept top bschool graduates? I want to be a business analyst. I don’t mind working for small firms first then move to bigger ones later on.

With your GPA and no work experience you won’t get into any decent business schools. A low GPA can be overcome by good work experience, and a very high GPA can sometimes be a substitute for lack of work experience, but with neither you won’t get in.

Definitely get 2-4 years work experience before you apply for an MBA. That plus a good GMAT score can offset a mediocre GPA.
