Do American b-schools prefer military applicants who served the USA or do they view all military experience equally? If there is some preference, to what degree does it occur?

It’s impossibly to say how any individual schools looks at this. It can vary all over the place. The important thing is to have work experience, and military experience can count. so don’t worry about it and apply.
