Question by cadelarge: Is a Doctorate in Business Administration less valid than a PhD in Business?
I am researching doctoral programs and am encountering programs which confer DBAs versus PhDs. Colleagues have warned me that the DBA is not as valid in the eyes of academic institutions as PhD and that i should avoid given I want to teach. What do you think?

The academic validity (that is, how much credibility the degree has to an academic institution) of a PhD will almost certainly be higher than a DBA. A DBA will serve just fine in a business or any non-teaching/academic environment, but if you want to be a professor at a decent University, the PhD will be worth the extra effort.
