Internet Providing New Opportunities for Frustrated High School Students

Malibu, CA (PRWEB) September 14, 2006

Joining the university bandwagon? Studies show that high school seniors will jump on the college bandwagon. According to the National Education Longitudinal Survey eighty-four percent of graduating high school seniors has a goal of completing a college degree. The reality, of those who enroll in college, the majority will drop out after only a few months. Less than 42 percent will actually receive a college degree. Those students who had poor grades in high school, only 14 percent graduate with a degree.

The mistaken belief that all graduating high school students should attend university sets countless students up for failure. In addition, it leaves many struggling for job options when college does not work out. Since the odds are that most students will not complete their college degree, they should be warned of this high potential for failure and advised of alternative career options.

Many times high school counselors and parents believe students should be college bound immediately following high school. The reality, however, is that the student may not be emotionally mature enough to adapt to university work, or they are not motivated by traditional college life.

“The labor market demands high skills, but does not necessarily demand a two or four-year college degree,” said Sherry Harris, President of Malibu Institute. “College is not the only option and certainly is not the best option for everyone.”

With online training students gain practical skills they can use in their chosen professions and it provides an alternative career option.
