You can get an MBA with any bachelor’s degree. Literally.

I would think about where you want to get your MBA from, and look at the admission requirements to that school. Also look at what courses you would be taking in the program. Based on the requirements and classes, I would choose a bachelor’s that would make the MBA program easier. Economics, finance, business, whatever. Your music degree might make things more challenging.

But in reality, it’s easiest to get a bachelor’s degree in something that is of high personal interest to you. Your best bet is to get a bachelor’s in something of personal interest, but keep the MBA requirements in mind as you go, so that getting into the program will be painless.

Well, for starters, you don’t need an associates degree to get a bachelors degree. You do however, need a bachelors degree to get an MBA.

You can get an MBA once you have completed any BS/BA degree. I have a BS in engineering and also have an MBA.

An MBA is open to applicants with a bachelor’s degree in any subject matter. There are some things to keep in mind, though. To begin with, the MBA will teach you business technique, but they will not teach you about the details of specific industries, and for some companies, the product is so complex that it would be difficult for someone without technical training to work there. There are a number of companies that will only hire MBAs with science degrees, or engineering degrees, or something like that.

Secondly, depending upon where you go to school, there is an issue with the fact that since the degree assumes no prior knowledge about business, how do you handle a class in which some people have just completed a four-year business degree? Some schools will say that if you had an undergraduate business degree, you can waive all of the basic courses, finishing more quickly. Other schools (including most of the more prestigious ones) will say that we aren’t giving you a degree for what you knew before, so if you waive out of the basic classes, you need to substitute something else. That was my situation, and I ended up taking six or seven extra electives to replace the basic classes I waived. Obviously, that gave me a lot of depth in my discipline. I still wish, though, that I had chosen to get my undergraduate degree in something other than business, rather than taking only business all the way through.
