Many employers feel an executive MBA has less value than a traditional MBA, but it certainly still counts for something. And not all employers feel it has less value.

Once you have an executive MBA, you can’t go back and get another MBA. You’re done.

An executive MBA is generally one that is designed for upper management at a company. . . A lot of companies will have their golden boy that is moving up the ladder, but lacks an MBA. To fix that they will send him/her to get an executive MBA. At places like Harvard an executive MBA is considered to be a bit of a joke by the regular MBA students because there is no grading. . . in a regular MBA there you get a graded on a forced curve with a certain percentage of the student in a class getting a low pass in every class regardless of how well they do (its possible for everyone in a class to know the material backwards and forwards. . . but still 5-10% will get a low pass). . . too many low passes and the school asks you to leave. The executives on the other hand get no grades. . . are pampered like royalty (because the school knows they are going to be high up in a company and are more likely to make big donations) and have no fear of being asked to leave.

In the case of Harvard. . . they view all MBAs as equal. . . and even if you have an executive MBA or even a normal MBA you could if you wanted to reapply to the same school or another school to do either MBA again. . . why would want to I don’t know. I do however know of one woman that went back through Harvard 20 some years after she first graduated. . . . I have no idea why she did it. . . stupidity I guess.

Unless you own your own company or are high up in a company most places would not consider you for an executive program. The only ones that would are the degree mills that would give a dog a degree if the dog could pay them.
