How to study chemistry at university without high school preparation?

Question by Rosie!: How to study chemistry at university without high school preparation?
I studied modern languages in both high school and university. But recently I’ve realised that what I really like is chemistry. I would like to do a second degree as soon as I can afford it, so I can study what I truely like. However, I have never taken science classes, so how could I go to university without A levels or equivalent? Is there any other way, a foundation year, special classes for adults etc. instead of high school preparation? Thanks.

Your algebra skills need to be in top for: logs exponents, multiple eqns and multiple unknowns – more important than high school chem

You could enter science at the masters level.

There are some degree courses designed for people without formal qualifications, that offer home study from foundation level. In the UK, the Open University offer such courses – but although you can bias the subjects you study, most people only get a general BA degree.

As I understand things, several US universities offer Open University programs – you have to scout around for the one that comes closest to your desires.

Chemistry is not a good first choice degree – but combined with language skills, it can open doors …

    What Soc said.

Look for some web sites to help you. Mine:

is, I think, a pretty decent survey of high school level chemistry. What I have tried to do is have lots of sample problems solved with explanations.

You might be required to take an introductory chem class at the university before taking their college-level first-year chem class.

Keep using Yahoo Answers. Some very decent question-answerers spend time here.

    Best wishes.
