17 years. wut.
I want to be a Geneologist, how many year of residency do I need for that specialty?
@ViacomFailsAtLife a support system, financial aid, scholarships, etc
To anyone who still think doctors are overpaid, I say talk to me after you carry 11 (or more if you specialize) years of student loans.
his cool
@AznGurl747 I sort of disagree on that. Being a doctor doesn’t mean you devote your entire life towards education, its actually quite the opposite. To get into medical school, you have to be a well rounded applicant, some one with experience in life and not only education. Joining clubs, doing activities and experiencing different aspects of life other than education go a long way. Most of my premed colleagues are popular, have girlfriends and still maintain a ~3.8 GPA. It’s all about priorities
LETS DO THISSS!!!!!!!! HIGH FIVE
@AznGurl747 “…being smart is lack of time?” What is that. If you didn’t notice. I was saying, that there’s a problem for medical practitioners particularly to those people wanted to be a physician. I sincerely believe, they are driven not by money but for being philantrophy as a doctor/nurse that love their job. As I said, it will take 11 years to finish. But after that, its rewarding! But not that many doctors/nurses will eventually go through because of failed policies and intrusion!
@Omegax9000 i expect you would learn alot more if you didnt go, saying that i am going to study to become a doctor so…. what the hell
Maybe this is the reason why so many medical practitioners can’t practice their profession. This is the reason why the lack of doctors, nurses, etc.. that supposed to be building up their own clinics already, and helping out the community. Average physicians are not driven by money, they are hard working and ready to help the people. The only thing that stopping them is the over-riding laws that fails to see. The same thing that happens in many developing countries!
Is that how career works now? Spending all your 20s to finish what career that you are longing for. That is pure rubbish! Let us see, you did all those 11 years. Now, you’re paying back all those loaned money either from your parents or the bank. But, you have to think. That is not like 50K grand of debts, and Im sure that is just an average in medical fields. Im not trying to shove it, I’d like to pursue a medical profession. But there is something wrong in our society, that’s all I can say!
you should be doing really good in high school to become one to have a strong foundation to be one. Im going to be a Junior this fall.. And im determined to become a doctor.. It’s going to be a lot of work. but as long as i believe in myself, i can do this!
Well.. Not so much.
if you put your mind to it.. yeah you’ll be a great one..
just work on your maths… and it’ll get better and better..
youll be a top doctor
so much work to be one…trust me
This is also modest. Some physicians have 20 years formal training. Depends on specialty.
@r0naldinh0666 thank you. If you really want it, it’s not hard to do it
ok thank you!
You shouldn’t be. As long as you take BC calculus or the equivalent in college before your 4 years are over, you should be good to go.
lol. good luck with that
I know math is important for this, but its the only thing I’m not too great at in school, but I’m very good at health and science, along with things like that. How worried should i be about this?
@Krooked339 Im 15 too =) In the future i want go to Harvard Medical School =)
people take comments way too seriously
u want to study for 11years just to get yourself high?????????
@lamberload It’s a life choice rather than a job.
3.75 GPA my ass. A competitive med school GPA is 3.4+. GPA is merely a cut off point. Medical schools use a holistic approach when choosing who to accept and who to reject. It isn’t all GPA and MCAT. They look at clubs, volunteering, shadowing, research, personal statement, recommendation letters, and other things.
@warrenach Can you explain this D.O method again please. You can become a real medical doctor with a D.O
Isn’t that Osteopathy only.
I wanna become a family doc But if its gonna take me that long,,,
PFTT. too hell with that Ill be A nurse.
2 LONG! 11!!!!!!!!!!!!
@torktt Sorry, my french is not 100% perfect as well, i don’t want to teach you wrong things about french lol.
Competition in Quebec is as intense as any other parts of Canada.
If you really want to study Medicine but can’t enter in Canada, you can aim for U.S. Universities, some schools are very easy to get in, if you fail to enter Medical School, you can enter the D.O. program and still be able to join residency and eventually become a Doctor in Canada after you get boards certified.
@WarrenAch
oky, merci bcoup! …mais pouvez-vous me corriger mes fautes dans le commentaire précèdent?
Aussi, est-ce qu.il vrai qu’il y a moins de compétition pour être un médecine au Québec que ailleurs au canada?……..bon chance à vous…a+!
@torktt Since you’re not a Quebec candidate, you’ll have to hold an Undergraduate degree from an accredited Canadian University with a very good GPA.
MCAT score is not needed but if you have a good one, consider it a plus.
From what i can see, your French needs a bit of work, you may have to pass a French test depending on the situation and respect certain criterias to be eligible for admission.
Contact the University you want to apply to for further informations, hope it helps, subscribe!
@WarrenAch
Slt gar!
ques ke je doit faire pour être un médecine au Québec? À ce moment j’habite dans l’ontario et aller au l’université d’ottawa pour faire des cours en immersion française.
Yeah, this system is only in quebec, and we still get the best scores in the Canadian medical association examinations.
Anyways,so much bad things here in Quebec,over-taxes,too much problems, the government screws his doctors,no wonder why almost 45% of specialists in Quebec left for Other provinces or the U.S…
If it doesn’t get any better when i finish,i’ll have to leave too,i don’t wanna be in misery while working..if you know what i mean..
Anyways, thanks for the wishes, good luck to you too!
Dude. Best of luck. I mean I have to give it to you Canadians, you guys become Doctors at a pretty young age but only downfall is you guys have the whole single-payer health care system or socialized medicine.
Well,to give you an idea, there’s like 2 years till i can finally apply.
Here in Quebec,an undergraduate degree is not required to access med/dent/pharm degrees.
You can access directly after CEGEP(French canadian college.)
But only the bests can access these programs without undergrads…it saves a lot of time but you have to work hard to become competitive in cegep, thats why most people go do an undergrad.
ECurriculars, letters, experiences are also counted here! =D
That’s awesome. How old are you? Actually, I have half a year left until I apply to Medical school. I don’t live in Canada though. I live in the United States which relies on the MCAT and GPA. Exactly, the 4.0 GPA won’t guarantee anything, usually extracurricular, letters of rec, and experience in the hospital and of course interview falls all in place when it comes to admission.
I’m not a med student yet, gotta go through a few more years, but i have a lot of friends and contacts that got into med/residencies and dentistry.
So yea…a 4.0-4.3 GPA doesn’t guarantee anything…and i’ve spoke with a surgeon someday and he told me that it works on par with luck, the interview/admission depends on the mood of the guy reviewing your profiles/grades/interview results…XD
Really? That’s interesting, but sucks if you don’t ace the interview. Are you a Med student?
Yeah, here in quebec/Canada,MCAT is not required, but interviews are strict and can make you or break you…some people with the best scores of their undergraduate program got rejected because they screwed the interview…while some with like 3.6 of GPA got accepted…
Actually, you’re wrong. Not all Medical schools require a student to take the MCAT. According to MSAR, the examination just tests your ability how well you know your knowledge of basic physical sciences!
Well. You’ll be dead in 2012, but that’s besides the point… Just hang in there, the same thing happened to me and I got through, you can bring your gpa up… just start now
