How Long it will take to complete Part time PhD in Law?
Question by Yousuf S: How Long it will take to complete Part time PhD in Law?
I’m planning to apply for part time PhD in Law from one of the colleges either in England or Wales. However I’m afraid from the duration. Since it says 6 years for part time students!!! Does it mean that I have to continue paying my fee (of GBP 5000 p.a.) for 6 years. Secondly is it possible to complete part time PhD in a shorter period of 2-3 years? I was able to complete my MBA (Finance) dissertation from the University of Wales within 6 months.

The minimum time frame for a part-time PhD (accelerated) is about 4-5 years. Since you’ll be working with a mentor under the regulations of a university, it’s hard to complete in any less time.
The research nature of the degree adds to the years, the cost and the inflexibility on part of authorities. I’ve experienced it firsthand.

It will normally take 4-8 years depending on many factors; supervisor, scope of research etc. But essentially it is done when it is finished! Adding significant and original research to a field of study does take time.
