Have you gotten a business license? Make up flyers and distribute them around to different businesses. Try running an ad in newspaper.

Go talk to your potential clients. Go to the business parks, strip malls, or medical centers where your potential clients are located. Ask who hires the cleaning service. Ask them what they pay and offer to do it for less. Get in the door, then make them love you.

In any small business, ultimately it’s about selling yourself. But for a repeat service business, you don’t have to sell yourself too often. You need a handful of good clients to start with. Make them happy and ask for referrals. Then you won’t need to advertise.

I think you should start with going to college about a cleaning business first

Does that answer your question so far

I’m a small business owner and if you were to approch me about your services I would listen to you sales pitch. In other words, you have to go get the business. You have to sell yourself. People must be able to trust the “company” that they are hiring and the only way to do that is to have a face to face. You will have to have atleast 10 rejections before you get one to say yes. But once you get that one you could use them as a referrence and build from there.

The business owner is correct…the peole who make the cleaning decisions for their business do not look on craigslist–unless they are desperate!
There are several ways, though, for you to make contact with them.
    1. Cold call drop in. Either you’re lucky and can talk with the decision maker right then, or make an appointment. Have business cards and an attractive flyer ready…oh, and your bidding form and contract-one never knows!
    2. Call and make an appointment. Make sure you’re not ‘squeezed’ in…you want their full attention.
    3. send an introduction letter, followed by a phone call within the week. Try to set an appointment to give a free estimate.
Always be professional-in your appearance, speech, literature and confidence.

I love office cleaning as a business and made a Squidoo lens all about it with tips and resources!
