Golden Gate University Responds to Obama Initiatives with Enriched Health Care Industry MBA offerings and Online Courses for Non-Profit Transitioning

Amidst the current health care debate and federal funding appropriations, Golden Gate University has announced curriculum concentrations for business students and health care professionals seeking leverage in a new economy, and a new marketplace.
Beginning January 2010, Golden Gate University will offer more options for health care industry education with both a Management of Health Care Information Technology Systems concentration within the MSITM (Master of Science in Information Technology Management) degree, as well as a certificate. These offerings complement the current Health Systems Management concentration and certificate in the traditional MBA program HSM certificate.
In addition, Golden Gate University will also offer a Non-Profit Immersion Program; an online only, non-credit program geared specifically towards business-savvy adults seeking to transition into the non-profit sector, which is projected to greatly expand over the next several years. By addressing these burgeoning directives by the Obama administration and the movement toward digitized and integrated information systems in health care, Golden Gate University seeks to meet the needs of today’s working adults in arenas where growth is occurring.
The health care systems offerings are aimed at working professionals in the field who are interested in acquiring or updating the IT skills needed to flourish. Applicable across the spectrum, from large-scale institutions to small business health care providers, there is a need for health care professionals to remain current with hot-topic issues, such as the required implementation of International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and Electronic Health Records (EHR), which calls for an IT-centric management of patient records. “The tenor of the entire health care debate is shaped by the need to take the proverbial ‘fat out of the system’ and pare costs,” says Bob Fulkerth, Chair, Operations and Information Technology Management at Golden Gate University. “Our graduates will have the skills to understand current hot-button issues as well as longer-term management and business issues.”
With an unprecedented 77 million baby-boomers on the cusp of retirement and a large percentage intending to work past retirement age, Obama’s call to action for public service paired with federal funding dollars have opened a door of opportunity for adults seeking to enrich their lives through positions in non-profit organizations, which have a business culture all their own. AmeriCorps and Peace Corps slots are expected to expand, in addition to new service opportunities for working adults and retirees. Golden Gate University will make the Non-Profit Immersion Program available as an online, non-credit offering so that it can be accessed by students anywhere, anytime.
