Getting in to best MBA schools in the US?

With only a 3.0 in my undergrad and a horrible transcript. Will a GMAT score of 750-780 suffice to help me get into the TOP as in Harvard/Stanford/U of Chicago etc. Or does someone suggest me to improve my academic record by doing a masters and finishing with a 4.0 and then applying. Ofcourse I am gaining work experience in fortune 500 companies in the meanwhile.

your work experience and scores could get you in. But with a 10% acceptance rate, it could be a longshot. You need a good interview.

If you are really interested in getting an MBA from an Ivy League school, you have to be at the top of your game in everything: grades (academic acheivement), work history, GMAT scores, and the all important community service (how are you improving society?). Then, on top of all that, you have to give an excellent set of references, interview and probably an essay.

If you don’t quite meet the standards, you can try a different 4 year university with an MBA program. But, if you really need to know what you need to get in, there are several publications which list MBA schools and programs and of course, the necessary requirements. They are books with such titles as “The Top 100 MBA Schools”, “How to Get Into an MBA Program”, etc. You’ll find these books at the library and the bookstore, usually in the reference section.
