Enroll, Enjoy and Study in the Virtual classroom
I remember back in College I had a Korean classmate. He was a bit shy and his English is a bit awkward. His parents did not want him to finish his college in their country so they sent him here in the U.S. He had a hard time fitting in but he managed to blend in with the crowd eventually. He was really good at math which made him a bit popular; he gained a few friends because of his math skills. Moving to a new school can be stressful; you will always have the feeling that you are alienated. What if you are moving to a different classroom? What if you moved into a place where you can not personally interact with your classmates and professors? What if you will be studying not in the real world but in cyberspace?
The Virtual Classroom is where most students and learners nowadays study their lessons. After the birth of electronic learning students begin to see the potentials of this new education platform. According to a study report of the Ambient Insight Research, 81 percent of post secondary students in the USA will be taking this computer based learning by the year 2014. Why is that? Unlike the traditional campus-based learning, post secondary students can work while studying because this modern study system can work around family and work schedules. This type of modern teaching system is growing immensely and as its popularity soars, e learning tools are continuously being developed to provide better learning content for the growing number of online learners.
Know which one is for you
There are many different types of this computer based learning and you should know which of these will suit your educational needs. All activities of online courses are done in the internet environment while Telecourses are composed of videos and textbooks and does not have online component. Telewebs has video component of Telecourses but has internet based content. Hybrid Courses combine on campus and computer based lessons. Each type has its own pros and cons, carefully choose which one will fit your schedule and capabilities.
Know the Language
Well you are not going to study other languages since most online learning systems are in English but what I am referring to are the terms used in the cyber learning environment this includes acronyms and abbreviations. Be familiar with the terms commonly used in this new learning method. Terms like CSCL, LMS, TEL are some of the terms that should be part of your vocabulary while taking your courses online.
Basic Troubleshooting skills
Knowing some basic troubleshooting knowledge could come handy while taking classes via the computer. Familiarizing with basic problem situations and studying the solution to these problems will be an asset while studying online.
These are few of the things you should consider before taking online learning courses and it will help you blend and fit in with other learners in the virtual classroom. Various e learning tools have been developed in order to create user friendly learning content however it is still highly advisable to be familiarized with more than just the basic computer skills before packing up and venturing in online learning environment.
