It does matter. The academic reputation of your MS program is not only going to be noted by future employers, it’s also going to be important to those top MBA programs. So be concious of this, and choose your program wisely.
That doesn’t, however, mean that the school you’re considering isn’t fine. Reputation of program has very little to do with whether or not the school is public or private. Make sure the program is respectable, the school is appropriately accredited, and etc. , and you should be okay.
