I know for business school you take the GMAT, and there’s the LSAT, etc. Is there a test you have to take when applying to grad school for a Masters of Arts degree?

Depends on the programs. Some require the Miller’s Analogies test, and others the Graduate Record Exams. The University I went to for my Master’s did not require a test. So, there are still some out there that require no SAT-esque exam. I think unless you’re inundated with applicants, requiring such a test is counterproductive and ultimately futile. Knowing that to ‘cow’ means to shy away from in fear doesn’t mean you’ll write good research in your given field.
