Do people realize that the real pressure starts after the degree?

Question by thinkstraight27: Do people realize that the real pressure starts after the degree?
After you get your college degree, you have the natural pressure of facing real world industries and starting to pay off some college loans, but that’s not the pressure I’m talking about. I’m talking about grad school. It’s like you have a choice: you can give up the majority of your youth and go to medical school and then residency training but at the end you’ll be set for life, or you can go to grad school for a master’s for 1-2 years, take a break to enjoy your youth and then at age 28-32 go back for either a PhD or MBA, but make less than the specialized doctor.
I seriously am considering just working and training to become an actor or pro athlete so I can have my youth and earn money too. Do people in the entertainment industry even realize how lucky they are? God, I’m never having kids so they won’t have to go through this! Does anyone else feel like this?

That’s why it’s important to get to know the people teaching you in your subject, they know what to do once you’ve got the degree.

That’s why they call graduation “commencement.”

You are off the family payroll. No more trophies for crap work. You’ve got to start working your ass off.

Good luck, For every actor and athlete making good money there are 100 who are struggling to make a living. Welcome to the real world. On the other hand, many MBAs make more than specialist physicians. You make your own breaks in life. School can be the most fun part of your youth, and prepares you for the future.
