do competitive business schools want years of work experience before you apply?

i heard that most people who get their bachelors go into the work force for a few years before applying to get their MBA. Is this true?
oh and how much work experience?

    Not all the time, they just want a high GPA and good SAT or ACT scores.

    Many MBA programs require that applicants have some work experience.

    Depends on how competitive the business school is. Very competitive like Wharton and HBS,will want work experience,a high GPA and a GMAT score around 700.

    In the UK it is not uncommon for people seeking business docotorates to be refused admission if they do not have a certain level of experience(it tends to be an age requirement really) regardless of prior degree holdings.
