To reap the full benefits of the MBA, you need to do it on-campus in class. An online MBA in my mind is nothing more than a purchased piece of paper. The schools catering to this are just doing it for the money. It costs them very little to offer an online program and they can have unlimited enrollment.
I did the normal/formal MBA program and without question it was the best experience I’ve had.
I took an online program from one of the top universities in the country for courses required for CFP certification and it was the most awful thing I’ve been through. It had the university’s name on the program and the certificate, however, it was developed and run by an outside company. Though advertised to offer access to faculty and TA’s that was a complete lie. There was an online messageboard system – which the school was supposed to have faculty and TA’s participating and answering questions – which they didn’t. If you posted regarding the program or saying anything negative about it – they removed your post!
The tuition charged was as much as doing the coursework on campus, but clearly this program was only interested in getting your money. There were many examples of this. Again, the most horrendous experience ever – totally turned me off of online education and seeing first hand what their objectives were.
If you are looking just to pay for the piece of paper that says MBA on it, then just start searching the top business schools in the country that offer online programs which have tuition in the price range you’re looking for. However, if you’re really looking to get a quality experience and the background and knowledge the MBA stands for, then do it right – on campus and in class. Even if that means a night program that takes a few years. These Executive MBA and online MBA programs are complete farces.
