Are You a Communications Leader? Find Out at PR Boot Camp. — Pentagon Media Trainer Drills Business and Community Leaders on Vital Public Relations, Crisis Communications, and Media Relations Skills at Columbus, Ohio Seminar.

Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) August 10, 2004

It’s tough to lead organizations through today’s troubling times. All leaders need to learn vital communications and public relations skills to help their businesses and agencies survive and even thrive in the wake of terrorist threats, economic upheaval, and rapid societal change.

Central Ohio Public Relations Society of America offers a one-day seminar to help communications, public affairs, and community relations managers of business, government, and non-profit organizations whip their communication skills and strategy into shape.

On August 19, Retired Lt. Col. Joseph V. Trahan III, Ph.D., APR, Fellow, PRSA will put both junior and experienced executives through their paces at Public Relations Boot Camp, held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m at the Ross Auditorium in Franklin UniversityÂ’s Alumni Hall, 301 E. Rich Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215.

As a master instructor for the Defense Information School and consultant to the Pentagon and Department of Homeland Security, Dr. Trahan has taught thousands of military and civilian leaders across the globe to communicate with power and candor in times of peace and crisis.

“There has never been a more critical time for professional development for communications and public relations managers, given the state of world affairs,” Dr. Trahan said. “The war on terrorism is going to take years. Leaders must plan ahead to help their organizations survive the unthinkable and unimaginable. Every organization needs to create and practice a crisis plan so that leaders can keep their cool when chaos reigns.”

“We are excited to host training in critical communications skills that central Ohio leaders can employ to steer their organizations through uncertain times,” said Deb Strohmaier, APR, chapter president. “Attendees will leave with practical and effective methods for managing relationships with their publics and the media.”

Morning sessions offer a thorough grounding in the theory and practice of public relations, including publics, attitudes, corporate reputation, campaign planning and strategy, and field tactics and evaluation.

During the monthly Central Ohio PRSA luncheon, Dr. Trahan will present, “The Gumbo Soup of Communications Leadership,” exploring what it means to be a communications leader in a world beset by terrorism, war, scandal, intrigue, and pandemic distrust.

Afternoon sessions focus on crisis communications planning and media relations principles and training.

The full program, including breakfast and lunch, costs $ 125 for PRSA members, $ 175 for non-members, and $ 50 for students. Half-day registration for the morning or afternoon session, including breakfast and/or lunch, costs $ 75 for members, $ 100 for non-members, and $ 25 for students.

Luncheon-only registration costs $ 25 for members, $ 30 for non-members, and $ 15 for students. The deadline for registration is 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 13.
