Question by Adrianna Christens: Are there any good jobs for the deaf in Houston, Texas?
I have a friend who recently graduated with his MBA and is not able to find a job. He is deaf. He speaks pretty well and can read lips and knows sign language. He keeps getting turned down on interviews for no good reason. There has got to be somewhere for a deaf professional to find good work now-a-days. Does anyone know of any good resources?

if he speaks well i don’t see why he couldn’t be a translator for a buisness………most business’s hire people who speak english/spanish
so why not Sign-language/English?

Your friend could always check with a handicap or deaf service center in the Houston area.
In the College Station area, we have two amazing ASL professors (both of which teach at Blinn College. A&M is in desperate need of a great ASL program with a wonderful teacher! It is always so much more effective and beneficial to learn sign from a deaf person! Perhaps other junior colleges and universities would be a good place to start looking. I would think a career in the television (news interpreter etc.) would be a fun thing to pursue as well! With an MBA it seems he should have no problem finding a job… seems a little unfair in my opinion…
