Question by moy78: Are my chances of getting into a good MBA program over b/c of a 2.0 undergraduate GPA?
I’ve been out of school for 4 years now (I attended Baruch, Zicklin School of business) and I would like to attend graduate school (preferable NYU Stern). However, I did not do as well as I know I’m capable of. And now I’m feeling really depress b/c I feel like my chances of pursuing a graduate degree is next to impossible b/c of my screw ups in undergrad. Can anyone give me advice as to how I can go about getting into graduate school with such a low GPA or are my chances nonexistent…

If you rock the GMAT – I mean, slam it to the ground and stomp on it – if you get absolutely stellar GMAT scores, it will help make up for your poor undergraduate GPA. You’d then need to support that high GMAT via some strong work experience since you graduated, excellent references, and some very good essays.
I have seen people with poor undergraduate GPAs get into elite MBA programs, if they did what I said, above. One woman, GPA 2.3, got into HBS – just one example. But the rest of your application must be dazzling to make up for that GPA. But if it is…?
Do extremely well on the GMAT – that’s your first priority. And even if you do very well on the GMAT, apply to schools at three tiers: Wicked reach (fits your GMAT but not your GPA), somewhat reach (your GMAT is higher than they normally want, but your GPA is much lower) and fit (your GPA is closer to their normal range, but your GMAT is shockingly high for them). So in NYC, for example, you’d rock the GMAT and then apply to:
1) NYU
2) Fordham
3) Pace
But no matter where you apply, make sure it’s AACSB accredited. All the schools I mentioned are.

You can retake the classes that you scored low in causing your GPA to be so low. I have a friend currently doing that to get accepted into a Master’s program.
