yes interaction between teacher and student will be affected.
I am a distance learner, and you miss out on having someone there to answer your questions immediately. i have online classrooms, and it can be an hour or two before someone is there to help. There is a lot of reading involved, as this is the only REAl way a distance learner can absorb all the information. So, more reading, and less practical hand-on stuff.
There are heaps of advantages thouhg, like you make your own timetable, you can sleep in, you can study in your pyjamas. You are in charge of your own life. make sure you make some contact who are on the same course, and use them to call if you have difficulties. Also ensure that you do not let the idea of having time to yourself control you, else you will slip behind in assignments, and get really stressed!!
Good Luck!!
Distance learning is great if your deadlines with work and social life are heavy. I did distance learning to get my Photographic diploma in the 1990s. It was great as i did study in my own time without the burden of pressure cramming for tests. When i was ready with the material i would send in the tests and as a consequence did exceptionally well. If your the type of person who can comprehend learning from books, and dont need huge amounts of assistance then it is great, however if your a hands on person kinesthetic (learn through seeing, touch, sound, sight) then this might not be up in your path ? However the books, videos are so user friendly, that you”d have to be pretty dim if you couldnt comprehend its knowledge presented.
It was through distance learning that eventually gave me the confidence to attempt to go to Uni, in which i did. I did exceptionally well at UNi and got my Honours Degree in social science. My professor has asked me to go onto the a Masters followed by a Phd. So to answer your question, i beleive its great if you have nt been to school for a number of years,it will instill confidence & self esteem which is important at an academic level.
