Question by chinalu: Accounting Finance question which degree is marketable?
Is it better to pursue a (MBA) plus CPA or Masters Accounting and Finance Management(MAFM) plus CPA? I am looking for great pay, stability to support my baby, single mom. Currently I do not have any experience in accounting, I currently work in the medical field, for 5 yrs, doing administrative work. So with the economy issues which is the best route to pursue? MBA plus CPA or MAFM plus CPA.

stay where you are, if anything go to school to get a better position with what you have been working
pursuing what you are suggesting will take years and there are plenty of these people right now in the field
there is always a need for people in the medical field

Both are not marketable, because the more you study, the more difficult it is for you to get a job, unless your company sponsored you for the courses. Stay with your admin job, although not well paid, at least you don’t waste money and effort and eventually end up with no better jobs.
The CPA is the key in either case. The masters will look good, but nowadays almost all states require 150 credit hours to take the CPA exam so most CPAs obtain a master’s. An MBA is more traditional. I’m assuming it is an MBA in accounting or taxation that you are considering. I would go that way.
But this will not be a walk in the park. They don’t just hand out CPA certificates once you leave the test. On average no more than 30% of those sitting for the exam pass. And the coursework just to qualify to sit for the exam is rigorous. If you intend to do this at night school it will take many years but in the end will be worth it. A CPA license will always open more doors and CPAs will always be in demand.
